We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Hapoel Holon (13-10) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Hapoel J-M (13-10) 80-70. Hapoel Holon was ahead by 1 point after three quarters before a 23-12 charge of Hapoel J-M, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Holon was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) nailed 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winning side and American-Romanian swingman Dan Grunfeld (198-84, college: Stanford) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds. Hapoel J-M's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Ron Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St.) came up with 17 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Tasmin Mitchell (201-86, college: LSU) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Hapoel Holon in the defeat. Four Hapoel Holon players scored in double figures. Hapoel J-M moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Hapoel Holon. Hapoel J-M will play against Ironi Ashkelon (#7) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Holon will play against the league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv and hopes to get back on the winning track.
