Regular Season Round 19: Culiacan - Tijuana 91-92

Sixth-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (8-11) made lots of trouble for third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (13-5) on Friday. The visitors from Tijuana managed to secure only one-point victory 92-91. However their fans expected easier game. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Strangely Caballeros de Culiacan outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 36-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American power forward Cyrus Tate (203-85, college: Iowa, agency: Edge Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 7 rebounds. The former international point guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) helped adding 19 points. Five Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Rob Robinson (203-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: SDJ Sports) responded with 31 points and 8 rebounds and the former international center Victor Avila (210-77, college: Oklahoma) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Caballeros de Culiacan's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tijuana Zonkeys maintains third place with 13-5 record having just three points less than leader Hermosillo. Loser Caballeros de Culiacan keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Los Mochis and Guasave. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play again against Tijuana Zonkeys (#3) and hope to secure a win.
