Regular Season Round 19: Guaymas - Cananea 79-93

Top ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (14-5) recorded its fifth loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Mineros de Cananea (9-10) 93-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ostioneros de Guaymas. The game was mostly controlled by Mineros de Cananea. Ostioneros de Guaymas was better in fourth quarter 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Center Anthony Pettaway (203-87, college: Defiance) contributed with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Mineros de Cananea's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and guard Haakim Johnson (201-87, college: Pikeville) added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Ostioneros de Guaymas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. Mineros de Cananea will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play again at home against Mineros de Cananea and hope to get back on the winning track.
