Very predictable result when third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (14-5) won against on the road 8th ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (8-12) 87-80 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Caballeros de Culiacan won third quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tijuana Zonkeys made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. American forward Darnell Hugee (201-85, college: Prairie View A&M) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Rob Robinson (203-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: SDJ Sports) replied with 24 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman Mychal Henderson (198-85, college: Ks Wesleyan) added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Caballeros de Culiacan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tijuana Zonkeys have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 14-5 record having just three points less than leader Hermosillo. Caballeros de Culiacan lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 12 games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will face bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
