Regular Season Round 54: Chiba Jets - Miyazaki SS 76-78

A very close game took place in Chiba between Miyazaki Shining Suns and Chiba Jets. Seventh ranked Miyazaki Shining Suns (21-27) got a very close victory on the road over 8th ranked Chiba Jets (18-30). Miyazaki Shining Suns managed to escape with a 2-point win 78-76 in the fight for the seventh place. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Chiba Jets won third quarter 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Chiba Jets outrebounded Miyazaki Shining Suns 49-34 including 36 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American swingman Dexter Lyons (198-81, college: Cent.Florida, agency: I.D.S. Law) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Takuro Ito (183-83) chipped in 19 points. Four Miyazaki Shining Suns players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Maurice Hargrow (193-83, college: Minnesota, agency: SDJ Sports) who recorded 25 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and his fellow American import guard Jamel Staten (198-83, college: Minnesota St., agency: SDJ Sports) added 11 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Chiba Jets' coach Eric Gardow rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Miyazaki Shining Suns maintains seventh position with 21-27 record which they share with defeated Chiba Jets. Loser Chiba Jets dropped to the seventh place with 30 games lost. They share the position with Shinshu BW. Miyazaki Shining Suns will meet higher ranked Toyama Grouses (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Chiba Jets will play against the league's leader Okinawa GK where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
