Regular Season Round 54: Toyama Grouses - Osaka Evessa 78-81

Fifth-ranked Toyama Grouses (24-24) gave a tough game to second ranked Osaka Evessa (33-15). The visitors from Osaka managed to secure only three-point victory 81-78. However their fans expected easier game. It looked good early as Toyama Grouses took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Osaka Evessa had a 24-11 second period charge getting the lead and Toyama Grouses were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-81. American forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) notched a double-double by scoring 11 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and the other American import center Wayne Marshall (211-86, college: Temple) supported him with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Even a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds by American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: SDJ Sports) did not help to save the game for Toyama Grouses. Masashi Joho (183-82) added 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Osaka Evessa have a solid three-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Hamamatsu P. lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Toyama Grouses at the other side dropped to the sixth place with 24 games lost. Osaka Evessa will play against Kyoto Hannar. (#4) at home in the next round. Toyama Grouses will play against Miyazaki Shining Suns and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
