Regular Season Round 21: Tijuana - Tepic 95-88

Very predictable result when second ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (16-5) defeated at home bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (1-20) 95-88. It looked good early as Coras de Tepic took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tijuana Zonkeys had a 36-19 second period charge getting the lead and Coras de Tepic was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 88-95. Tijuana Zonkeys dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Coras de Tepic's 46. Tijuana Zonkeys forced 23 Coras de Tepic turnovers. It was a good game for American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. The former international power forward Arim Solares (202-83) contributed with 18 points and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Ray Reese (196-87, college: Tulsa, agency: David Lee services) answered with 40 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the other American import center Deangelo Riley (205, college: Azusa Pacific) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Coras de Tepic. Five Tijuana Zonkeys and four Coras de Tepic players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Tijuana Zonkeys. They maintain second place with 16-5 record behind leader Hermosillo, which they share with Guaymas. Coras de Tepic lost their third game in a row. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Tijuana Zonkeys' next round opponent will be again bottom-ranked Coras de Tepic (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game.
