Rather predictable result when ninth ranked CB Clavijo (18-15) defeated on the road 12th ranked Girona FC (16-17) 90-85 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-15. But Girona FC won third quarter 31-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when CB Clavijo won last quarter 23-19. American point guard Mathew Witt (183-84, college: E.Kentucky) stepped up and scored 28 points and 7 assists for the winners and Nigerian power forward Olaseni Lawal (208-86, college: Wayne St., MI) chipped in 12 points and 16 rebounds. Lawal is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. CB Clavijo's coach Jesus Sala allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Latvian power forward Rolands Freimanis (207-88, agency: Players Group) with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Ignacio Ordin (183-78) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Five CB Clavijo and four Girona FC players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for CB Clavijo. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Breogan. Loser Girona FC keeps the twelfth position with 17 games lost. CB Clavijo will face Caceres 2016 (#10) at home in the next round. Girona FC will play against Melilla Baloncesto.
