Second Stage Round 5: Impuls BGUIR - Svisloch 84-80

Round 5 in Premier League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Minsk where host BGUIR-RTI (13-17) beat league's leader SBK Osipovichi (12-16) 84-80 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the top position in League. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. BGUIR-RTI had a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by SBK Osipovichi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Yuriy Ignatiev (198-91) who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Evgeniy Sugoniako (198-92) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. BGUIR-RTI's coach Siarhei Varyvodau used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Sergej Vabischevich (190-88) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Siarhei Charykau (184-82, college: Yakima Valley CC) added 8 points and 11 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. BGUIR-RTI keeps a position of League leader. SBK Osipovichi at the other side dropped to the second place with 16 games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Minsk-2006. SBK Osipovichi will play next round against strong Sozh Gomel trying to make it back to the top of the standings. BGUIR-RTI will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
