Very expected game when 10th ranked Coras de Tepic (1-23) lost at home to sixth ranked Frayles de Guasave (12-12) 91-79 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Frayles de Guasave. Coras de Tepic managed to win third quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Frayles de Guasave made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game, while Coras de Tepic only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Coras de Tepic 34-19 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international swingman Alonso Izaguirre (200-76) who scored that evening 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Russell Carter (196-85, college: Notre Dame) supported him with 27 points and 5 rebounds. Five Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Even 42 points (!!!) and 6 assists by American forward Ray Reese (196-87, college: Tulsa, agency: David Lee services) did not help to save the game for Coras de Tepic. His fellow American import center Deangelo Riley (205, college: Azusa Pacific) added 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Frayles de Guasave have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nogales. Coras de Tepic lost sixth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 23 lost games. Frayles de Guasave will meet league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Coras de Tepic will play against Caballeros de Culiacan (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
