Regular Season Round 56: Okinawa GK - Chiba Jets 79-75

BJ League top team - Okinawa GK (37-13) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked Chiba Jets (18-32) 79-75. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-16. But Chiba Jets won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds. The other American import Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Okinawa GK players scored in double figures. Okinawa GK's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Jamel Staten (198-83, college: Minnesota St., agency: SDJ Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and guard Takaki Ishida (188-82) added 22 points in the effort for Chiba Jets. Okinawa GK maintains first position with 37-13 record. Chiba Jets lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 32 games lost. Okinawa GK will face Toyama Grouses (#5) on the road in the next round. Chiba Jets will play against Iwate Big Bulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
