No shocking result in a game when first ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (35-15) crushed 9th ranked Takamatsu FA (2-48) in Mikawa 95-69 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hamamatsu Phoenix. Takamatsu FA was better in second period 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hamamatsu Phoenix dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Takamatsu FA's 32. They outrebounded Takamatsu FA 48-32 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hamamatsu Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Takamatsu FA's players. Swingman Shingo Okada (186-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. The former international center Atsuya Ohta (206-84) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Hamamatsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Ryuji Kawai felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and point guard Masaaki Suzuki (176-87) added 19 points in the effort for Takamatsu FA. Hamamatsu Phoenix have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 35-15 record. Takamatsu FA lost seventeenth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 48 games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix will face Shinshu BW (#7) in Nagano in the next round where they are favorite. Takamatsu FA will play at home against Oita Heat Devils and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
