Regular Season Round 30: Real Madrid - Asefa Estudian. 85-80
Date: April 22, 2012
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Madrid: Real Madrid (#2) and Asefa Estudiantes (#17). Despite it looked like an easy game for Real Madrid, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest Asefa Estudiantes challenged much higher ranked Real Madrid giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by five points 85-80. It looked good early as Asefa Estudiantes took an 15-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Real Madrid took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 5 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Asefa Estudiantes' 32. 25 personal fouls committed by Asefa Estudiantes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Jaycee Carroll (188-83, agency: Priority Sports) notched 25 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and international power forward Felipe Reyes (203-80) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Real Madrid's coach Pablo Laso allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 26 points by center German Gabriel (207-80) did not help to save the game for Asefa Estudiantes. British power forward Daniel Clark (210-88, agency: Interperformances) added 9 points and 8 rebounds. Real Madrid maintains second position with 23-7 record having just two points less than leader FCB Regal. Asefa Estudiantes at the other side keeps the seventeenth place with 21 games lost. Real Madrid's next round opponent will be Assignia Manresa (#10) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Asefa Estudiantes will play against Blusens Monbus (#13) in Santoago de Comp.
