Second Stage Round 5: M.Magixx - Groningen 86-77

Date: April 28, 2012
The game between Top Four teams took place in Nijmegen. Third ranked host Nijmegen (1-3) defeated leader Groningen (2-1) 86-77. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Groningen. The hosts were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-20 Groningen's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 86-77 at the end of the game. Strangely Groningen outrebounded Nijmegen 42-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. American forward Lucas Hargrove (198-88, college: Auburn) nailed 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Marcel Aarts (213-83, agency: R.H.Consultancy) accounted for 15 points. Five Nijmegen players scored in double figures. American guard Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import power forward Avis Wyatt (211-84, college: Virginia St.) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Groningen in the defeat. Groningen's coach Hakim Salem rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Nijmegen maintains third place in Group B with 1-3 record behind leader Groningen. Groningen at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Zwolle. Nijmegen will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Groningen will play at home against the league's second-placed Zwolle and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
