Regular Season Round 57: Iwate Big Bulls - Chiba Jets 82-77

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when ninth ranked Iwate Big Bulls (18-33) beat at home 8th ranked Chiba Jets (18-33) 82-77 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-12. But Chiba Jets won second period 23-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Iwate Big Bulls shot 26 for 39 from the free-throw line, while Chiba Jets only scored seven points from the stripe. Chiba Jets were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: SDJ Sports) stepped up and scored 27 points and 5 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and his fellow American import power forward LaShawn Malloy (209-84, college: New Orleans) chipped in 10 points and 14 rebounds. Four Iwate Big Bulls players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Jamel Staten (198-83, college: Minnesota St., agency: SDJ Sports) with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Takaki Ishida (188-82) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Chiba Jets' coach Eric Gardow rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Iwate Big Bulls. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Chiba Jets and Shinshu BW. Chiba Jets lost their fourth game in a row. Iwate Big Bulls will face again Chiba Jets (#8) at home in the next round.
