SerieA top team - Montepaschi Siena (23-7) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat fifth ranked Banco di Sard. (18-12) 92-85. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Banco di Sard. won third quarter 26-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Montepaschi Siena dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Banco di Sard.'s 40. Montepaschi Siena looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian center Ksistof Lavrinovic (210-79) who scored 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Montepaschi Siena's coach Simone Pianigiani used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Montepaschi Siena have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 23-7 record. Loser Banco di Sard. dropped to the fourth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Scavolini PS and CS Bologna. Montepaschi Siena will meet at home CS Bologna (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Banco di Sard. will play against Umana Venezia and hope to secure a win.
