Important game to mention about took place in Avellino. Ninth ranked Air Avellino (14-17) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 8th ranked Cimberio Varese (16-15) 78-77 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cimberio Varese. It looked good early as Cimberio Varese took an 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Air Avellino took control winning two of next three quarters and eventually winning the game that evening by 1 point. Cimberio Varese was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American power forward Linton Johnson (203-80, college: Tulane, agency: Priority Sports) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. American-FYR Macedonian point guard Marques Green (167-82, college: St.Bonaventure) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists for the winners. American guard Phil Goss (186-83, college: Drexel) answered with 23 points and 6 assists and center Diego Fajardo (208-76, agency: Players Group) added 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Cimberio Varese. Five Air Avellino and four Cimberio Varese players scored in double figures. Cimberio Varese's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Air Avellino maintains ninth place with 14-17 record. Cimberio Varese at the other side keeps the eighth position with 15 games lost. Air Avellino will play against higher ranked Umana Venezia (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cimberio Varese will play against Banca Tercas in Teramo and hopes to get back on the winning track.
