Regular Season Round 30: Cananea - Tepic 120-107

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Coras de Tepic (2-28) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Mineros de Cananea (16-14) 120-107. Coras de Tepic was ahead by 11 points after three quarters before a 42-18 charge of Mineros de Cananea, which allowed them to win the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Coras de Tepic was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) contributed with 37 points (!!!) for the winners. Mineros de Cananea's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Ray Reese (196-87, college: Tulsa) replied with 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Kavin Young added 28 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Coras de Tepic. Four Coras de Tepic players scored in double figures. Mineros de Cananea have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 16-14 record. Coras de Tepic lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 28 lost games. Mineros de Cananea will play against Frayles de Guasave (#5) on the road in the next round. Coras de Tepic will play against Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
