Rather predictable result when third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (24-11) defeated at home 6th ranked Mineros de Cananea (18-17) 84-74 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Tijuana Zonkeys. Mineros de Cananea managed to win third quarter 25-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Tijuana Zonkeys won last quarter 28-19. Tijuana Zonkeys outrebounded Mineros de Cananea 48-32 including 19 on the offensive glass. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was power forward Robert Hornsby (196-82, college: Troy) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists. Swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Tijuana Zonkeys. They maintain third place with 24-11 record having seven points less than leader Hermosillo. Mineros de Cananea lost their third game in a row. Defending champion keeps the sixth position with 17 games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will again meet at home Mineros de Cananea (#6) in the next round. Mineros de Cananea will have a break next round.
