Regular Season Round 37: Tijuana - Culiacan 85-88

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (25-12) against ninth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (13-24) on Friday night. Host Tijuana Zonkeys were edged by Caballeros de Culiacan in a tough game in Tijuana 85-88. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Tijuana Zonkeys. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 30-23. But Tijuana Zonkeys won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caballeros de Culiacan players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The former international forward Jesus Gonzalez (195-86) stepped up and scored 28 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: ProSportsCareers) chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side American power forward Robert Hornsby (196-82, college: Troy) responded with 23 points and 4 assists and the other American import swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Caballeros de Culiacan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Navolato. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the third position with 12 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tijuana Zonkeys will play again at home against Caballeros de Culiacan and hope to get back on the winning track.
