Regular Season Round 2: Guerreros - Panteras 67-91
Date: September 6, 2012
An interesting game was also a 24-point tough home loss of 3rd ranked Guerreros in a game versus undefeated Panteras (#6) 91-67. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Panteras led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 26. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83) notched 27 points to lead the effort and American power forward Lee Nailon (205-75, college: TCU) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Even 32 points by American point guard Michael Hunter (178, college: Cal-Irvine) did not help to save the game for Guerreros. His fellow American import forward Chris Kaba (203-88, college: N.Colorado) added 11 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panteras (2-0) keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Guerreros dropped to the fifth place with one game lost. They share the position with 7 other teams. Panteras will meet Gansos (#13) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Guerreros will play against Barreteros (#7) in Zacatecas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
