Regular Season Round 3: Gigantes - Halc.Xalapa 86-117

LNBP top team - Halcones UV Xalapa (3-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fourteenth ranked Gigantes (0-3) 117-86. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones UV Xalapa. Gigantes was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halcones UV Xalapa players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Gigantes' players. It was a great evening for American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry, agency: Prossin Sports Management) helped adding 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Halcones UV Xalapa players scored in double figures. Halcones UV Xalapa's coach Angel Gonzalez felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was British V.Islands-Vincentian center John Gardiner (203-83, college: Sam Houston St.) with 29 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Sam Liggins (178, college: Alders.-Broad.) scored 25 points and 4 assists. Halcones UV Xalapa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 3-0 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Gigantes still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Gansos and Lechugueros. Halcones UV Xalapa will play against Soles (#8) in Mexicali in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gigantes will play on the road against Lechugueros (#16) in Leon and hope to get finally their first victory.
