The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Pioneros (3-1) in Veracruz on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked Halcones Rojos (3-1) 104-94. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Pioneros. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones Rojos. Pioneros managed to win third quarter 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Halcones Rojos looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Pioneros' players. 25 personal fouls committed by Pioneros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international forward Noe Alonzo (200-83, college: Grand Canyon) who added 22 points during the contest. At the losing side the former international guard Forrest Fisher (193-80) responded with 25 points and Jamaican-American point guard Akeem Scott (186-83, college: High Point) scored 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones Rojos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Pioneros. Halcones Rojos is looking forward to face Soles (#14) in Mexicali in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Pioneros will play on the road against the league's leader Halcones UV Xalapa (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
