Undefeated Toros (4-1) recorded its first loss in Zacatecas on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by ninth ranked Barreteros (3-2) 72-64. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toros. Toros were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 16-3 charge of Barreteros, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Toros to just 3 points in fourth quarter. The best player for the winners was American guard Jason Horton (188-86, college: Missouri) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. His fellow American import guard Mike Battle (193, college: Cent.Florida) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Horton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Barreteros players scored in double figures. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: ProSportsCareers) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the former international forward Jesus Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Toros' coach Jose Martinez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Barreteros moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Toros at the other side keep the second position with one game lost. They share it with Panteras and Halc.Rojos. Barreteros is looking forward to face Soles (#14) in Mexicali in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toros will play at home against Halcones Rojos (#3) in Veracruz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
