Date: September 20, 2012
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when twelfth ranked Guerreros (2-4) won against at home 11th ranked Lechugueros (2-4) 91-83 on Thursday. Lechugueros trailed 45-44 at halftime, rallying from a 30-17 deficit at the end of first quarter to trim the gap. Guerreros made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Lechugueros turnovers. Lechugueros were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American point guard Michael Hunter (178, college: Cal-Irvine) who led his team to a victory with 31 points, 9 assists and 5 steals. The other American import forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) contributed with 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Hunter is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Senegalese center Babacar Camara (211-81, college: CS Fullerton) replied with 25 points and 6 rebounds and Jamaican guard Ricky Johns (193-85, college: Utah) added 17 points in the effort for Lechugueros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lechugueros' coach Harold Arceneaux let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Guerreros moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Lechugueros and Soles. Guerreros will face higher ranked Abejas (#5) in Guanajuato in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
