There was an upset when higher ranked Barreteros (3-3) lost to fourteenth ranked Soles (2-4) in Mexicali 73-83 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 50-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Soles outrebounded Barreteros 41-23 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Barreteros were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American center Kentrell Gransberry (206-85, college: S.Florida) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds. The former international forward Roman Martinez (201-88, college: N.Mexico) contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American forward Ramiro Loera Almanza (196-81, college: Cameron) replied with 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and forward Christopher Silva added 12 points in the effort for Barreteros. Soles moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Lechugueros and Guerreros. Loser Barreteros keep the eighth position with three games lost. Soles will face higher ranked Panteras (#3) in Aguascalientes in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
