Regular Season Round 6: Soles - Barreteros 83-73

There was an upset when higher ranked Barreteros (3-3) lost to fourteenth ranked Soles (2-4) in Mexicali 73-83 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 50-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Soles outrebounded Barreteros 41-23 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Barreteros were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American center Kentrell Gransberry (206-85, college: S.Florida) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds. The former international forward Roman Martinez (201-88, college: N.Mexico) contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American forward Ramiro Loera Almanza (196-81, college: Cameron) replied with 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and forward Christopher Silva added 12 points in the effort for Barreteros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Soles moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Lechugueros and Guerreros. Loser Barreteros keep the eighth position with three games lost. Soles will face higher ranked Panteras (#3) in Aguascalientes in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
