Regular Season Round 8: Corr.Victoria - Toros 62-78

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Ciudad Victoria. First ranked Toros faced 3rd ranked Correcaminos. Guests from Nuevo Laredo (7-1) defeated host Correcaminos (5-3) 78-62. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Correcaminos. The game was mostly controlled by Toros. Correcaminos managed to win third quarter 18-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Correcaminos 45-33 including 39 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was naturalized American forward Quentin Gonzalez (200-84, college: McNeese St.) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: ProSportsCareers) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Toros' coach Jose Martinez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Toros have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record, which they share with Halc.Xalapa. Correcaminos at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Abejas and Pioneros. Toros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Correcaminos will play at home against Fuerza Regia (#11) in Monterrey and are hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
