Regular Season Round 8: Halc.Rojos - Guerreros 92-86

There was no surprise in Veracruz where 13th ranked Guerreros (2-6) were defeated by fifth ranked Halcones Rojos (6-2) 92-86. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Guerreros were ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 52-39 second half run of Halcones Rojos. They outrebounded Guerreros 37-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) who scored that evening 15 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Venezuelan power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) supported him with 13 points. Five Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even 27 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) by American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) did not help to save the game for Guerreros. His fellow American import point guard Michael Hunter (178, college: Cal-Irvine) added 19 points and 5 assists for the guests. Halcones Rojos moved-up to third place, which they share with Panteras. Newly promoted Guerreros keep the thirteenth position with six games lost. Halcones Rojos' next round opponent will be Gansos (#15) which should be an easy win for them. Guerreros will play against the league's second-placed Halcones UV Xalapa.
