Regular Season Round 8: Panteras - Gigantes 96-89

Bottom-ranked Gigantes (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 96-89 loss to sixth ranked Panteras (6-2) in Aguascalientes on Thursday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 33-24 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Panteras outrebounded Gigantes 42-27 including 20 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Panamanian power forward Antonio Garcia (203-76, college: Ky Wesleyan) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83) who added 38 points (!!!) during the contest. Panteras' coach Juan Cardona used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Adam Morris (185, college: Tex.A&M-Kingsv.) responded with 23 points and 8 assists and his fellow American import guard Sam Liggins (178, college: Alders.-Broad.) scored 28 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Panteras moved-up to third place, which they share with Halc.Rojos. Newly promoted Gigantes still closes the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Gansos. Panteras will meet at home Osos (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gigantes will play against Barreteros in Zacatecas and look forward to get finally their first victory.
