Regular Season Round 8: Abejas - Soles 81-89

We should mention about the upset which took place in Guanajuato, where higher ranked Abejas (5-3) lost at home to tenth ranked Soles (4-4) 81-89. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Abejas. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Abejas won third quarter 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Soles dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 50. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The winners were led by American center Kentrell Gransberry (206-85, college: S.Florida) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington, agency: SportsTalent) supported him with 20 points and 10 assists. Even 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) did not help to save the game for Abejas. American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) added 18 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Five Soles and four Abejas players scored in double figures. Abejas' coach Daniel Jaule rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Soles have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Barreteros. Abejas at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Soles' next round opponent will be Lechugueros (#12) in Leon.
