Regular Season Round 1: Mitsubishi K. - Aishin AW 83-57

There was a change at the WJBL leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 1 took place in Nagoya between two undefeated teams where Mitsubishi K. crushed Aishin Wings (0-1) 83-57 on Friday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Mitsubishi K. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Aishin Wings' players. International forward Chika Sakuragi (179-91) stepped up and scored 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and swingman Mitiko Miyamoto (175-86) chipped in 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side power forward Shiyu Sato (178-87) responded with 13 points and forward Yuka Maeda (173-84) scored 6 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Mitsubishi K. (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with JX Sunflowers. Aishin Wings at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Toyota A.. They were replaced at the leadership position by JX Sunflowers. Aishin Wings will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Mitsubishi K. will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Aishin Wings in Anjo.
