The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Halcones UV Xalapa as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Halcones UV Xalapa smashed 13th ranked Guerreros at home 128-82. The game without a history. Halcones UV Xalapa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 44 and made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Guerreros 46-29 including a 37-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Halcones UV Xalapa looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Guerreros' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Halcones UV Xalapa made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry, agency: Prossin Sports Management) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Puerto Rican power forward Angel Alamo (206-85) who recorded 21 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Michael Hunter (178, college: Cal-Irvine) added 6 points and 9 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Guerreros lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the thirteenth place with seven games lost. Guerreros will play next round against Gigantes trying to get back on the winning streak. Halcones UV Xalapa will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Barreteros in Zacatecas.
