Regular Season Round 2: Aix-en-Provence - Lyon 69-67

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Lyon (1-1) in Les Milles on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by eighth ranked Aix-en-Provence (1-1) 69-67. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-21. But Lyon won second period 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Aix-en-Provence won last quarter 16-15. They made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Australian center Cayla Francis (192-89) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian-British guard Shona Thorburn (178-82, college: Utah) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Aix-en-Provence players scored in double figures. Croatian center Emilija Podrug (190-79) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized Senegalese forward Mame-Marie Sy-Diop (185-85) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Aix-en-Provence left bottom position moving up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Lyon. Aix-en-Provence is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lyon will play against Charleville-Mezieres (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
