Date: September 29, 2012
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Pau Lacq Orthez and bottom-ranked Dunkerque had identical 0-0 record. But Dunkerque was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Pau 96-90 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 33-25. But Dunkerque won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pau Lacq Orthez won last quarter 22-18. They shot 64.7 percent from the field. Dunkerque was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American forward Janeka Lopp (183-79) who helped to win the game recording 21 points. Senegalese forward Awa Gueye (182-78) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American center Sabrina Scott (190-81, college: Colorado) answered with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Latvian power forward Dace Brumermane (187-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 15 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Dunkerque. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Pau Lacq Orthez (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Dunkerque still closes the standings with one game lost. Pau Lacq Orthez will face COB Calais (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Dunkerque will play against Laveyron and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
