Regular Season Round 10: Huracanes - Abejas 94-91

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Huracanes (6-2) edged 5th ranked Abejas (6-4) in Tampico 94-91 on Thursday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Abejas were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import swingman Anthony Johnson (197-79, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds and American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Abejas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Abejas' coach Daniel Jaule tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Huracanes have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Abejas at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Huracanes will have a break next round. Abejas will play against Correcaminos (#8) in Ciudad Victoria and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
