The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Penarol as it allowed them to take a leadership position in South. Penarol smashed 7th ranked 9 de Julio in Mar del Plata 101-69. The game without a history. Penarol led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Penarol players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by 9 de Julio's players. It was a great evening for the former international Marcos Mata (201-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. American guard David Teague (196-83, college: Purdue) helped adding 19 points and 7 rebounds. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Enzo Ruiz (193-88, agency: Dream Team Management) responded with 18 points and American forward Edward Nelson (203-82, college: Connecticut, agency: Dream Team Management) scored 12 points. 9 de Julio's coach Sebastian Gonzalez gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Penarol (5-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Argentino. 9 de Julio lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. 9 de Julio will play next round against Wuber-Est.Bahia trying to get back on the winning streak. Penarol will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Argentino at Junin.
