Regular Season Round 1: Hawks - Kings 79-76

Date: October 5, 2012
A very interesting game took place in Gwynneville. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of bottom-ranked Kings (0-1) to leader Wollongong Hawks (1-0) 79-76 on Friday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Kings were ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 21-12 third quarter run of Wollongong Hawks. Strangely Kings outrebounded Wollongong Hawks 37-25 including 24 on the defensive glass. The former international swingman Glen Saville (197-76) fired 21 points for the winners. Power forward Larry Davidson (206-83, college: Boise St.) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Four Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. American forward Darnell Lazare (203-85, college: LSU, agency: Priority Sports) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import point guard Corin Henry (180-88, college: Tarleton St.) added 15 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Kings' coach Shane Heal rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Wollongong Hawks keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Kings at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. Wollongong Hawks' next round opponent will be Cairns Taipans (#3) on the road, which may be the game of the day. Kings will play against Melbourne Tigers.
