Regular Season Round 1: Toshiba BT - Mitsubishi DD 73-68

There was no surprise in Kanagawa where bottom-ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (0-2) were defeated by leader Toshiba Thunders (2-0) 73-68 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-17. But Mitsubishi Dolphins won second period 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) fired 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds. Four Toshiba Thunders players scored in double figures. American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Toshiba Thunders maintains first place with 2-0 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Mitsubishi Dolphins still closes the standings with two games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face bottom-ranked Tochigi Brex (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play against Toyota Alvark in Fuchu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
