There was a minor upset when higher ranked Saint-Quentin (1-1) was defeated at home by sixteenth ranked Nantes (1-1) 92-86 on Friday. The guests trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 54-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Nantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward James Mathis (200-84, college: Niagara, agency: Court Side) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Senegalese forward Elson Mendy (200-85) chipped in 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Nantes' coach Guillaume Quintard used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. American Darnell Williams (202-78, college: San Jose St., agency: David Lee services) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Julien Lesieu (201-83) added 11 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nantes left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Saint-Quentin. Nantes will face Fos Ouest (#16) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
