Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (1-1) was edged by second ranked Sendai 89ers (1-1) in Mikawa 63-61 on Saturday. Hamamatsu Phoenix was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 18-13 charge of Sendai 89ers, which allowed them to win the game. Hamamatsu Phoenix was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. It was a very good performance for forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) who helped to win the game recording 7 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Kevin Coble (203-87, college: Northwestern) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Sendai 89ers' coach Robert Pierce used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Kevin Galloway (200-88, college: Texas Southern, agency: Top Notch Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Jeffrey Parmer (203-85, college: Florida Atlantic, agency: Top Notch Sports) added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Hamamatsu Phoenix. Sendai 89ers maintains second place with 1-1 record behind leader Iwate Big Bulls, which they share with Hamamatsu P. Sendai 89ers will face league's leader Iwate Big Bulls at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play against Oita Heat Devils.
