Regular Season Round 11: Corr.Victoria - Abejas 89-102

Round 11 games were marked by very close results. The first upset was a home defeat of 8th ranked Correcaminos (6-5) to seventh ranked Abejas (7-4) 102-89. The game was mostly controlled by Abejas. Correcaminos managed to win fourth quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Abejas shot 62.5 percent from the field. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Guard Roman Andrade (188, college: N.Mexico Highlands) helped adding 24 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) responded with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and power forward DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) scored 24 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Abejas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Panteras and Soles. Correcaminos at the other side keep the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Barreteros and Pioneros. Abejas is looking forward to face Barreteros (#9) in Zacatecas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Correcaminos will play on the road against Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
