Regular Season Round 1: Sydney UF - Canberra C. 61-74

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Sydney Uni Flames (0-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by leader Canberra Capitals (1-0) 74-61. The game was mostly controlled by Canberra Capitals. Sydney Uni Flames managed to win third quarter 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Jessica Bibby (169-79) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 assists for the winners and forward Brigitte Ardossi (188-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. At the losing side international guard Alicia Poto (166-78) responded with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and power forward Tayla Roberts (191-93) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Canberra Capitals left bottom position moving up to second place, which they share with Townsville F. and Dandenong R. Sydney Uni Flames at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Canberra Capitals is looking forward to face Logan Thunder (#7) in Loganholme in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sydney Uni Flames will play on the road against Adelaide Lightning and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
