A very interesting game took place in Malaga. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked FIATC Joventut (1-1) to seventeenth ranked Unicaja Malaga (1-1) 73-71 in the fight for the seventh place. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But FIATC Joventut won third quarter 25-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Unicaja Malaga won last quarter 20-19. Unicaja Malaga outrebounded FIATC Joventut 39-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. 27 personal fouls committed by FIATC Joventut helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Txemi Urtasun (193-84, agency: Interperformances) notched 12 points to lead the effort and the former international center Fran Vazquez (209-83) supported him with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Even 21 points by guard Albert Oliver (187-78) did not help to save the game for FIATC Joventut. American forward Tony Gaffney (204-84, college: Massachusetts) added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Unicaja Malaga left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated FIATC Joventut.
