Regular Season Round 3: Stal Ostrow - Astoria Bydg. 76-71

Very predictable result in Ostrow Wlkp. where leader Stal Ostrow (3-0) defeated bottom-ranked Astoria Bydg. (0-3) 76-71 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-14. But Astoria Bydg. won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Stal Ostrow forced 28 Astoria Bydg. turnovers and outrebounded them 41-23 including 16 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Stal Ostrow made 11 blocks. It was a great evening for power forward Lukasz Olejnik (203-79) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 6 rebounds. Power forward Wojciech Zurawski (199-76) helped adding 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. The best for the losing side was power forward Sebastian Laydych (203-87) with 18 points and 6 rebounds and forward Dorian Szyttenholm (194-83) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Stal Ostrow have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with MKS DG. Astoria Bydg. at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with three games lost. Stal Ostrow will face Slask Wroclaw (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Astoria Bydg. will play against WIKANA Start (#12) in Lublin and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
