Regular Season Round 2: Honka - Huima 78-58
Date: October 7, 2012
The game between Top Four teams took place in Espoo. Top-ranked host Honka (2-0) smashed one of their biggest challengers Aanekosken (1-1) 78-58. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Honka. Aanekosken was better in second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Honka dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Aanekosken's 32. Honka forced 22 Aanekosken turnovers. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Melissa Jeltema (175-88, college: Oakland) notched 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Jordan Greenleaf (185-87, college: Auburn, agency: Gamble Sports Management) supported her with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Honka players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 24 points and 17 rebounds by swingman Jasmin Holliday (182-90, college: Oregon) did not help to save the game for Aanekosken. Center Kenya Robinson (182-70, college: New Orleans) added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Honka keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Catz and PeKa. Aanekosken at the other side dropped to the fifth place with one game lost. They share the position with FoA and HoNsU. Honka will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aanekosken will play on the road against the league's leader Catz Lappeenranta (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.
