Regular Season Round 2: PeKa - Kerava 102-78
Date: October 7, 2012
Very expected game in Kotka where bottom-ranked Kerava Energia Team (0-2) was crushed by top-ranked Peli-Karhut (2-0) 102-78 on Sunday. The game without a history. Peli-Karhut led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kerava Energia Team's 38. Peli-Karhut forced 21 Kerava Energia Team turnovers and outrebounded them 48-27 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Peli-Karhut especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Kerava Energia Team's players. The best player for the winners was American swingman Korinne Campbell (182-88, college: W.Virginia) who had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds. The other American import guard Miriam McKenzie (177-90, college: Loyola, MD) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. Italian-Ghanian guard Rosetta Adzasu (165-90, college: Washington St.) produced 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals and forward Roosa Lukkarinen (174-92) added 19 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Peli-Karhut keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Catz and Honka. Loser Kerava Energia Team still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with BC Nokia and TuRi. Peli-Karhut will meet at home Forssan Alku (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Kerava Energia Team will play against Torpan Pojat in Helsinki.
