There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Joensuun Kataja (2-1) was rolled over on the road by tenth ranked Loimaan Korikonkarit (1-1) 98-75 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Loimaan Korikonkarit led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Loimaan Korikonkarit looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Joensuun Kataja's players. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. The best player for the winners was guard Martin Zeno (196-85, college: Texas Tech) who scored 24 points and 7 assists. Forward Ryan McDade (201-80, college: N.Arizona) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Loimaan Korikonkarit's coach Greg Gibson felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Jonte Flowers (196-85, college: Winona St., agency: Warren Sports International) who recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Johnell Smith (180-80, college: New Orleans) added 12 points and 5 assists respectively. Four Loimaan Korikonkarit and five Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. Defending champion left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Kouvot. Loser Joensuun Kataja dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Loimaan Korikonkarit will meet league's leader Tampereen Pyrinto on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Joensuun Kataja will play against Kouvot in Kouvola and hope to secure a win.
