Leader Halcones UV Xalapa delivered the eleventh win on Thursday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Huracanes (6-4) 109-88. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 109-88. Halcones UV Xalapa dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Huracanes' 50. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who scored 24 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who recorded 26 points and 6 rebounds and the former international center Rodrigo Zamora (206-86, college: Montana St.) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Halcones UV Xalapa (11-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Huracanes at the other side dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Halcones UV Xalapa are looking forward to face Correcaminos (#10) in Ciudad Victoria in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Huracanes will play on the road against Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
