Regular Season Round 2: Ancona - Ragusa 48-67
Date: October 13, 2012
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both top-ranked Ragusa and top-ranked Ancona had identical 1-0 record. But Ancona was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from Ragusa 67-48 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in South. The game was mostly controlled by Ragusa. Ancona was better in fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ancona to just 6 points in second quarter. It was a great shooting night for Ragusa especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 76.9 percentage. Greek power forward Peli Papamichail (189-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points. The former international guard Paola Mauriello (185-81) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Guard Carola Sordi (179-82) replied with 27 points and forward Monique Ngo Ndjock (187-85) added 10 points in the effort for Ancona. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ragusa (2-0) keeps a position of South leader, which they share with S. La Spezia and Irpino. Loser Ancona dropped to the sixth place with one game lost. Ragusa will face T. La Spezia (#5) at home in the next round. Ancona will play against the league's leader Irpino.
