Regular Season Round 2: Gunma - Shinshu BW 88-101

Rather predictable result when top-ranked Shinshu BW (1-0) won against on the road bottom-ranked Gunma (0-3) 101-88 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Shinshu BW. Gunma was better in third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 35-of-42 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Gunma only scored thirteen points from the stripe. Shinshu BW forced 19 Gunma turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Gunma was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Wayne Marshall (211-86, college: Temple) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds. The other American import forward Jermaine Green (203-80, college: N.Texas) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Toshino Tatsuhiko (185-88) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Lewis Witcher (207-87, college: Virginia Tech) added 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) in the effort for Gunma. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Shinshu BW left bottom position moving up to second place, which they share with 7 other teams. Newly promoted Gunma still closes the standings with three games lost. Shinshu BW will have a break next round. Gunma will play again at home against Shinshu BW (#5) in Nagano.
